Some say that we have explored more of the moon's surface than we have our own ocean, which is crazy since the moon is 384 400 kilometres away!
In light of this, we’re diving into some of the lengths that engineers are taking to navigate our oceans effectively and efficiently. More so, they’re working on ways to explore our oceans with minimal environmental impact.
BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) is doing just that, and their proposed designs are breathtaking. Their robotic “collector”, which has an uncanny resemblance to a horseshoe crab, gently extracts materials from the ocean floor – while disturbing as little as possible – using clever water mechanics and machine learning techniques.
We love this article, and we hope that you do too. After all, we feel that research with minimal damage is anything but “shellfish”.
