Curriculum Grades R-3

The Novice Curriculum is a fun, progressive, and CAPS-aligned introduction to coding, robotics, and digital concepts for Foundation Phase learners. Designed to develop key skills in computational thinking, design thinking, and logical reasoning, it builds a strong foundation in how computers and robots ‘think’, through concepts like pattern recognition, decomposition, abstraction, and algorithms.
In Grade R, learners begin with unplugged coding through interactive play—no screens required, while Grades 1–3 move into block-based programming with the Novice Bot and Resly IDE, learning to solve problems, follow logic, and avoid obstacles in exciting hands-on ways.
Each grade is supported by a structured set of resources: a learner book with 40 engaging, interactive lessons, and a teacher’s guide with step-by-step instructions and memoranda. The curriculum is further enhanced by our online course platform, offering digital lessons, videos, and activities that align perfectly with the books—making it easier than ever to teach Coding & Robotics with confidence and creativity.
At Resolute, we believe that the first step to becoming a programmer is learning to think like one—and having fun while doing it.
All our CAPS-aligned books in the Apprentice series are proudly published in collaboration with Oxford University Press, ensuring high-quality educational content that meets national standards while inspiring innovation in every classroom.
