At Resolute Education, we believe in the transformative power of technology and education. Our mission is to equip the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. As a leading provider of coding and robotics solutions, we supply robotics kits, an online platform, and comprehensive teacher training to schools across South Africa. This support enables schools to integrate coding and robotics into their curricula, fostering a new era of tech-savvy learners.
One of our proudest initiatives is the "Code the Nation" platform, a comprehensive resource hub designed specifically for South African educators. This platform offers free, high-quality materials to help teachers introduce coding and robotics to their students, regardless of their previous experience or resources.
Our Commitment to the World Robot Olympiad (WRO)
Resolute Education is honoured to be the main sponsor of all World Robot Olympiad (WRO) events in South Africa. The WRO is a global competition that brings together young minds from around the world to showcase their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). With over 60,000 students participating annually, the WRO ignites a passion for STEM and encourages creativity and problem-solving through engaging and challenging robotics competitions.
As a key partner, we are actively involved in all WRO events, supporting participants and helping to create an inspiring and inclusive environment. Our sponsorship is part of our commitment to nurturing young talent and providing opportunities for students to develop critical skills that will serve them in their future careers.
What is the World Robot Olympiad (WRO)?
The World Robot Olympiad™ (WRO) is a global event that combines science, technology, education, and robotics. It provides a platform for young people to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills by participating in educational robotics competitions. The WRO offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in hands-on learning and to collaborate with peers from around the world.
In South Africa, teams can compete in any provincial competition to qualify for the National Final. All competing teams are ranked nationally, and the top 10 to 15 teams are invited to the National event in Gauteng. Winners from this event have the chance to represent South Africa at the international WRO competition.
The WRO Competition Structure
The WRO competition consists of four main challenge types, each with specific age groups, rules, and requirements:
Robo Mission: Teams assemble robots to solve a specific problem. The robot that completes the tasks successfully and in the shortest time wins.
Future Innovators: Teams design robots based on a theme and present their projects. Judging is based on creativity and innovation across four categories.
Robo Sports: Teams create robots that compete against each other in various sports, with the robots programmed to play autonomously. The sport changes every 2-3 years, adding an element of surprise and challenge.
Future Engineers: This is an engineering challenge for college and university students to build self-driving vehicles. Teams must build, document, and present their solutions.
This year's theme, "Earth Allies," encourages teams to explore how technology can help protect and preserve our planet.
As the main sponsor of WRO South Africa, Resolute Education is proud to support these events and help inspire the next generation of innovators. We are excited to see the incredible talent and creativity that this year's competitions will bring and are committed to continuing our support for STEM education in South Africa.
