My name is Kiara, and I am a Marketing Intern at Resolute Education.
My journey with Resolute started at school, where I was exposed to coding and robotics. Every year during school open days, Resolute Education always stood out. Their stand was never just about technology , it was about purpose. They showcased who they are, what they believe in, and why they partner with schools to bring coding and robotics into school curriculums.
From the moment I learned about Resolute, I knew this was a place I wanted to be part of. What attracted me most was the opportunity to learn from four amazing mentors, grow new skills every single day, and be surrounded by a team that is not only incredible at what they do, but also amazing, kind, and generous people.
Resolute is more than just a company. It is a place that changes lives, impacts communities across South Africa and beyond, and brings coding and robotics to the world. The culture is positive, energetic, and full of heart. Every day is filled with teamwork, collaboration across departments, and genuine connection.
What truly excited me was the chance to step into a new environment, meet people from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, step out of my comfort zone, and grow both personally and professionally. The high, bubbly energy, the strong teamwork, and the passion for making a difference made me feel like I belonged from day one.
The path to becoming an intern wasn’t easy. One of my biggest challenges was pulling an all-nighter to create a presentation and an introduction video as part of my interview and assessment process. I had to develop a business prototype, complete a detailed form explaining my business idea, record a video, and pitch my presentation, all by the deadline.
I pitched my project at Roboticon, competed against a person who was much older than me and had been coding from a very young age. That was intimidating, but it didn’t stop me. I presented with confidence and answered challenging questions that pushed me to think deeper and grow.
At first, I didn’t win the internship at Platform45, and I truly thought that was the end of the road. But then something unexpected happened: I was called back as a runner-up and awarded a paid internship at Resolute Education. That moment changed my life.
To get through the pressure, I stayed focused and motivated. I mapped out my time hour by hour, took regular breaks, limited distractions, accepted help when it was offered, and reminded myself not to do everything alone. I worked towards a reward and kept telling myself to just keep going.
Stepping into the corporate working world as an ordinary student felt unreal. To this day, it remains one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.
A typical day at Resolute starts with checking my calendar and emails, responding to meeting invites, and attending our daily stand-up. This is where I see what my mentors have planned for me, what they’re working on, and where I can assist with tasks.
I check my Monday board for weekly tasks, break them down into daily goals, and complete a daily wrap-up that I send to the marketing team’s Google Chat. Every Friday is review day, where my mentor gives me valuable feedback that helps me improve week after week.
No two weeks are ever the same. Every task challenges my current skill set and shows me where I can grow. There are no boring weeks; each one is its own adventure.
Some of the key things I’ve worked on include:
Creating email banners and posters while learning the power of “less is more”
Coming up with my own social media content ideas
Contributing ideas for the 2026 Innovation Ambassador Programme
Professionally and personally, I’ve learned that age does not matter. You will work with people much older than you, and that’s a good thing. Different perspectives push you to grow. I’ve learned the importance of planning, asking for help, communicating clearly, and being confident in who I am.
What stood out to me most is that at Resolute, you are encouraged to be your authentic self. There is no need to pretend or fit into a box, and that makes all the difference!
This internship has shaped me in ways I never imagined. I have learned the true value of teamwork and collaboration, the importance of listening and putting advice into action, and the courage to speak up and share my ideas.
I have learned that not every conversation will include me, and that is alright. It doesn’t mean I’m less important. Confidence grows with time, and so does your voice.
Most importantly, this experience has taught me to be myself, not to follow the crowd, and to express myself positively and impactfully. It has inspired me to pursue a future career centred around coding and robotics, and my confidence continues to grow every single day.
If you’re thinking about applying for an internship at Resolute, jump, dive, and go for it!
Sometimes you need to sink before you rise again.
Apply even if your friends aren’t. Create something that brings you joy. Turn your expectations into reality. Don’t wait, if the opportunity comes, take it!
Ask for help from your mentors. They are there to guide you. Change can be scary, but it’s also freeing. Set goals, adapt when needed, and don’t overthink. Action matters more than perfection.
Mistakes are proof that you are learning. Own every moment because internships are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Network, communicate your ideas, and if you have a business idea - DO. NOT. HIDE. IT!
And always remember: eat the frog. Do the hard thing first.
This internship means more to me than words can explain. Every day, I continue stepping out of my comfort zone. My little seed is growing, and the support around me allows it to grow stronger each day, into a tree that keeps reaching higher.
I am deeply grateful to my mentors:
Danielle, for teaching me social media content creation, photography, and the power of a catchy headline
Meleze, for teaching me how to engage with clients, partners, and parents with confidence
JP, for teaching me design, alignment, and why less is always more
Fabio, for teaching me the importance of email communication and strong admin systems
My mentors are not just colleagues, they are my teachers and role models. They planted me in the ground for a reason, and because of them, I continue to grow and blossom into the best version of myself.
What drove me to apply was an inspiring video of Cable (Full Stack Developer), whose words sparked something in me. It was shared during a presentation by Huzaifa (Chief Growth Officer), alongside Lucia from Platform45, highlighting how their partnership gives students real opportunities.
Resolute’s impact is powerful. From Roboticon to being a proud partner and sponsor of the World Robot Olympiad, supporting over 60,000 students across South Africa.
On the very last day of my Matric prelims, I received an email saying I was shortlisted. That moment changed everything.
To the entire Resolute Education team: thank you for the warmest welcome. This past month has been unforgettable, and I cannot wait to continue learning, growing, and becoming more each day.
To any high school student thinking of putting themselves out there, I believe an internship is one of the best places to start. 🌱
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Rajesh and Huzaifa for giving me the opportunity to become Resolute Education’s first intern and for welcoming me into such an incredible team. This opportunity has meant more to me than words can fully express. I am truly honoured to be part of the Resolute Education team.
