At Resolute Education, we believe that inspired teachers create inspired learners. Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating exactly that when the Curro schooling group hosted a competition for their Coding & Robotics educators; rewarding creativity, innovation, and classroom engagement.
The challenge? Design and decorate a Coding & Robotics classroom that sparks curiosity and enhances learning. The most creatively decorated classroom wins a 3D printer sponsored by Resolute Education.
The winning educator, Erin McKenna, teaches Coding & Robotics to Grade 4–6 learners at Woodhill College in Pretorius Park. After visiting her classroom, it was easy to see why she stood out.
When the Resolute team arrived to deliver and set up the 3D printer, Ms McKenna welcomed us with contagious enthusiasm as she proudly showed us around her learning space.
Her classroom immediately tells a story of collaboration and creativity. Shelves lined with impressive LEGO®️ builds reflect hands-on exploration, while colourful posters and learner-created displays transform the room into an environment where innovation feels natural.
One of the most striking features hangs across the back wall: a string of paper gears, each uniquely drawn and coloured by her learners. Every piece carries their unique interpretation of Coding & Robotics and a touch of individual creativity, symbolising how each student contributes to the classroom community.
It quickly became clear that this space wasn’t just decorated for learners, it was created with them.
Among her students, Ms McKenna is famously known for her LEGO earrings, a small but meaningful detail that reflects her genuine passion for Coding & Robotics.
Her dedication extends beyond the classroom walls. We were impressed to learn that she already owns a small 3D printer at home, which she has used to support classroom activities and decorations. She has even gone as far as 3D printing a colourful version of Resolute’s Apprentice Level 3 Home Automation kit, demonstrating both initiative and creativity in bringing learning concepts to life.
This level of commitment perfectly embodies the spirit of innovation the competition aimed to celebrate.
The excitement around the new printer was immediate. Four eager learners volunteered to carry the box from reception to the classroom, while others eagerly discussed what their first prints might be.
For Ms McKenna, however, the excitement goes deeper than the technology itself.
She is most excited about how the 3D printer will enhance teaching and learning, not only by introducing learners to 3D printing skills, but by enabling her to create customised resources that enrich Coding & Robotics lessons and expand what’s possible in the classroom.
At Resolute Education, we know that meaningful technology integration begins with empowered educators. Teachers like Ms McKenna demonstrate how creativity, passion, and learner involvement can transform a classroom into a space where innovation thrives.
We look forward to seeing how her ideas evolve and how the new 3D printer will support even more engaging, hands-on learning experiences for her students.
Congratulations again to Ms Erin McKenna. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers and creators.
